Frequency
Planning
All Radio Spectrum usage is co-ordinated
internationally by the International
Telecommunications Union (ITU). For
European broadcast purposes, this
is done through the European Broadcasting
Union (EBU). RTÉNL’s
Frequency Planning delegates attend
EBU Fora to represent the interests
of Irish broadcasters in the determination
of frequency allocations for Ireland.
Using sophisticated computerised
planning tools, and a national terrain
database, RTÉNL’s frequency
planners have developed coverage
plans for the existing four national
analogue television services, five
national FM radio services, local
radio services, a future national
DAB network, and a possible six multiplex
DTT system. They have also developed
models used to provide a national
microwave link system for the distribution
of radio and television services
nationally.
What we can do for you
- Frequency planning and coverage
predictions for any telecommunications
application including analogue
television and radio, DAB, DTT,
microwave links, mobile communications,
mobile telephony, or any other
wireless application.
- Liaise with the Commission for
Telecommunications Regulation (ComReg)
on frequency allocations and licensing.
Liaise with regulatory bodies in
neighbouring countries and/or EBU
to co-ordinate frequencies as required.
- Feasibility studies on the availability
of frequencies and likely interference
sources, and roll-out planning
for any wireless application.
- Antenna design for implementation
by manufacturers to fulfil desired
coverage requirements.
- Field trials with respect to
frequency selection and coverage
calculations, as well as compatibility
with existing services.
- Coverage verification. We provide
a measurement service to confirm
existing coverage or to identify
areas in need of improvement.
What we need
from you
- Details of service area to be
covered and the application.
- Intended frequency if known
- Location of site(s) from which
transmission will take place if
known.
